11 Jun Maddie + Nic | Engagement Photos

It’s wedding week for Maddie and Nic and I could not be more thrilled for these two! As you’ll see, they are just a little bit photogenic… their engagement photos taken in Charleston, South Carolina by Good Graces Photography are simply dreamy. Both of them just graduated college… Nic from The Citadel and Maddie from the University of Alabama. This Fall, Nic will enter the Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine program at Auburn University. They both share a big love of animals. Their wedding is set to take place at Cullman First United Methodist Church this Saturday morning and will be followed by a lovely brunch reception at the home of Nic’s grandparents… literally a block away from the church. We also have a fun “Post Kiss” celebration planned for the guests to partake in. Such an exciting time for them both and I cannot wait to see them say “I Do!” I hope you enjoy looking through these images as much as I have and reading Maddie’s Q&A.

How/where did you meet and what did you do on your first date? Give us all the details.

We’ve gone to school together since kindergarten. We were never friends through school, just knew who each other were. The first time we ever hung out was at the beach in the summer of 2015…I wouldn’t really call that a date because we hung out in a group setting. The first real date he ever took me on was to the Birmingham Zoo. We walked around all day and he got us lost on the way back home!

Describe your dream date…

After 3 years of long distance anything with Nic is a dream date! It has really made me appreciate just getting to sit on the couch and watch tv or sit in a booth at Chickfila. Now that he’s home I couldn’t ask for anything more!

Do you have a favorite movie or song?

Not really, neither of us are picky about movies or songs. It was actually a struggle to find a song for our first dance.

What guilty pleasure do you share?

Eating. We love desserts… cookies, ice cream, cake…anything will do!

Tell us all about the proposal… anything not go as planned or was it completely perfect?

He took me to the wrong restaurant! We had valet parked our car, were seated, and had actually eaten the appetizers before he started to panic. He excused himself to talk to the waiter and eventually we had to get up and leave (and go get the car). The restaurant we were suppose to be at was right across the street. In his defense though, my parents changed the restaurant reservations the day he proposed, so everyone was a little confused. I also almost ran into his entire family right before he proposed. They had arrived at the hotel early to get in position to surprise me, and as I was rounding the corner they were running on the elevator so I wouldn’t see them. I didn’t learn about all the incidents until after though, so it was perfect for me!

What do the two of you like to do together when you aren’t working?

Just relax. Both of our jobs are very physically exhausting so any downtime we get is great!

What are you looking forward to the most about your wedding day?

I think just having everyone we love together at one time. We both have big families so being able to share with everyone will be really special.

How did you know he was the one?

We started hanging out at the end of summer so we only had about 2 weeks from then to when he had to go back to the Citadel. Since they have to stay on campus, he wasn’t allowed to come home to visit me. So the next time I saw him was 3 months later when I decided to go to Charleston with some friends to visit him. I knew that after that weekend I would either know he was the one or know I should move on. We hung out a lot for that weekend but one night he took me to the pier and we sat on a swing and talked. It was mostly about our future and where we saw our lives going. It was all very genuine and sweet and it really showed me where his heart and priorities were at. At the end of the weekend I was getting in the car to drive back home and he hugged and kissed me and in that moment that I had to leave him, I knew that he was the one. I never want to have to leave him or be without him and I really believe our long distance made our relationship stronger. It seems a little sudden but I never had doubts after that weekend that God made him for me.
